Despite being the highest market town in England, Alston lies within the North Pennines, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, meaning that this quaint town is surrounded by exquistie views of surrounding fells and the South Tyne Valley. This isn't the only reason to visit this town; with the long history of this town, it's easy to find 17th Century buildings. Or take a short journey through pleasant terrain on the South Tynedale Railway, open through April to October.
