About Threave Garden & Estate

Threave Garden & Estate is a series of spectacular gardens created over the years by students of the Trust's School of Heritage Gardeningsurrounding a fine Scottish Baronial style house - with many rooms displayed as they were in the 1930s. The Gardens are open all  year, where visitors can enjoy the delights in every season - from spring flowers, through summer blooms, autumn colours and winter frosts. Take time to explore the rock garden, patio garden, secret garden, water features, heathers, conifers and herbaceous perennials. Most of the produce displayed in the walled garden and glasshouses is used in the Terrace Cafe to create delicious home cooked meals, soups, snacks and baking. Guests can also take a guided tour, around the Estate, where they can find out about the history of the house and the Gordon family who had it built in 1872. Threave Garden & Estate has so much to offer, from the bat trail to the delightful woodland walks just beyond the garden, so is well worth the visit when in Castle Douglas!
