About Elizabeth Gaskell's house

While this is the former home to the famous novellist Elizabeth Gaskell, she was hardly the only person of note to have stayed here with visitors inlcuding other litarary giants such as Charles Dickens and Charlotte Brontë as well as John Ruskin and Harriet Beecher Stowe. The house still remains a fantastic piece of Regency-style architecture and, thanks to recent restorations, is now open to the public. Visitors can witness how Elizabeth and her family lived and discover all about the Manchester of this period.
