I went here in August with the family, and it was a good day out. We spent several hours doing various mini attractions in the Needles Park, and went out on the boat trip too. The cable car was excellent, and offered an amazing view of the bay as you come over the cliff - not suitable for young children to go on alone though (there is a sign!). My only gripe was that it felt quite commercialised - but I suppose that is to be expected. The areas itself is lovely, but it did just feel like they were trying to squeeze money out of use for everything. I'd definitely go back, but would probably avoid the mini attractions, and head straight for the beach area and boat trip.
