Another Guinness World Records title set at Brooklands Museum

Tightest-ever Parallel Parking Manoeuvre is the Latest Triumph at the Birthplace of British Motorsport

On Guinness World Records Day, the 12th November, Alastair Moffatt of Stunt Drive UK put everyday parking efforts to shame by conquering the record for the Tightest Parallel Parking in Reverse, achieving a combined distance between parked cars of just 34cm, beating the previous record of 35cm by 1cm. The successful attempt took place at Brooklands, the iconic Birthplace of British Motorsport and Aviation.

Foot to the floor in reverse, Alastair performed a dramatic J-turn, then a handbrake turn, to slot into the seemingly impossible space. The record was overseen by Guinness World Records adjudicators and, upon achieving the record, Alastair said: “I am so thrilled that I was able to achieve a Guinness World Records title today – especially on Guinness World Records Day. It doesn’t get much better than that. A lot of planning, dedication and, of course, parking went it to today’s successful record attempt.”

Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, added: “What Alastair has achieved today encapsulates everything about Guinness World Records Day. Our parallel parking records are always hotly contested, and his demonstration of skill, precision and dedication to achieve such a difficult record is really inspirational stuff. I can barely park in an empty field…”

As many as 650,000 other budding Guinness World Records title hopefuls, from across the world, joined together to celebrate GWR Day 2015. Records have tumbled in Peru, USA, Japan, China, India to name just a few, and records will continue to be broken throughout the day, around the world.

In addition to the record being broken at the Museum, Brooklands was recognised and presented with a Certificate from Guinness World Records for being the World’s First Purpose-Built Race Track. It was built in 1907 and was unique in its design and concrete construction with huge banked sections allowing incredible speeds to be achieved.
