Brooklands Readies itself for the UK's Biggest Classic Start to the New Year

January 1st 2016 - Brooklands Museum

The gates of Brooklands Museum will open at 9am on Friday January 1st, to welcome spectators and participants to the now legendary New Year’s Day Gathering, believed to be the biggest New Year’s Day turnout of classic vehicles in the country.

Director Allan Winn, marking 2016 as the 25th year since the Museum officially opened, says:“One of the best things about the New Year’s Day gathering at Brooklands is the breadth and range of vehicles that join us, including classic and performance cars, historic commercial vehicles and motorbikes. You can see Austins and Fords alongside Bentleys, Rolls-Royces and Ferraris, Routemaster buses, classic Minis and Porsches – everybody is welcome”.

The Museum is anticipating a great turnout: last year’s event attracted an audience of over 5,000 people along with nearly 1,250 classics in a bewildering variety of age and type. The Paddock, Finishing Straight and steep Members Banking of the 1907 Race Track will be lined with displays from clubs and individuals who make the annual pilgrimage to this traditional start to the motoring year.

As usual, there will be a Winter Barbeque in addition to the Sunbeam Café for lunches and snacks (guaranteed turkey-free!) and the chance to ‘Race, Fly or Drive’ in the state-of-the-art 4D Theatre located opposite Concorde, which will be open for the half-hour ‘Concorde Experience’. The Discovery Centre and soft play area inside the Sunbeam Café will be open for youngsters, so there will be something to entertain everyone.

All those arriving in pre-1973 vehicles, and interesting ‘younger’ vehicles, including supercars, should enter the Museum site via the Campbell Gate off Brooklands Road (KT13 0QN), while extensive parking for spectators’ cars will be in The Heights off Wellington Way.

Brooklands Museum is open from 10am to 4pm (until 5pm in summer) every day apart from a short Christmas break which this year is 24th – 27th December inclusive. Admission is £11 for adults, £10 for seniors, £6 for children (aged 5 – 16) and just £30 for a family ticket. The Concorde Experience is £5 for adults, £3 for children. Rides in the 4D Theatre are £3 for adults, £2 for children*
