Eclipsing stars, electrical bling and eyeballs in At-Bristol this half term!

At-Bristol Science Centre will have adventures for everyone, this October half-term – including a brand space-based live science show ‘Destination Space’, the chance to get up close and personal with some amazing anatomy in ‘Dissection Lab’, enjoy some autumnal treats in the Kitchen and Greenhouse, and venture in to the depths of space in the brand new 3D Planetarium. Running from 22nd October to 1st November 2015.

Following a car fire in the car park on 3rd September, the Millennium Square car park will undergo repair, so will unfortunately be closed during half term. Alternative parking options are available nearby, as well as good public transport links, visit at-bristol.org.uk/gettinghere  for further information.

Building up to the launch of the Tim Peake’s forthcoming ‘Principia’ International Space Station (ISS) mission, the brand new ‘Destination Space’ live science show is all about space; where visitors will be able to investigate the challenges of microgravity, launch rockets with flammable hydrogen gas and find out what astronauts do when they need a wee on an eight hour space walk!

Regular presenter-led shows will be running in the Planetarium*, with the brand new Autumn Stargazing (in 2D or 3D) showcasing what’s in the night sky right now, as well as new topical sections such as the recent discovery of water on Mars,  (and the forthcoming  ‘Principia’ ISS mission in December). For the under 6's there will also be the ‘Space Explorers’ show (2D), allowing them to venture in to space and become fully trained space explorers!

Visiter can get hands-on at the 'Kitchen in the Food!' exhibition can as they make autumnal treats, including exploring some unusual juices, creating take-away breakfasts, and trying out the food of the future. In the Greenhouse they can then get their hands dirty, by discovering all about ‘magic beans’ and green manure!At-Bristol’s Live Lab area will be host to ‘Dissection Lab’ – always a favourite, visitors will be able to investigate the anatomy of animal organs with At-Bristol’s Live Science Team, as they are guided through hands-on dissections; from tugging on heart-strings to peeking through an eyeball.

For half-term only from 26-29 October, the brand new ‘Tinkering Lounge’ up on the 2nd floor will allow visitors to get hands on with experiments to make things wobble, shake and move – as well as making their own electrical bling! Extra café space, as well as extra picnic areas, buggy storage and a cloakroom area, will be acommodated by the 2nd floor of At-Bristol.

As well as 250 hands-on exhibits, all of the activities above are included in the general admission prices. *Planetarium shows cost £2 per seat for a 2D show, or £3 per seat for a 3D show. Booking in advance is advised, and 3D shows are only available for children aged 6 and over.

At-Bristol is open 10-6 daily throughout the half term holiday period, for further information and to book tickets, please visit at-bristol.org.uk or call 0117 915 1000 (9-5 Monday-Friday).
