John Moores Painting Prize Jury Announcement

Returning for its 60th year, the John Moores Painting Prize is calling for entries. Submission commences on September 14th, and ahead of the submissions the jury has been announced.

This jury, decide the winner of the £25,000 prize available to the successful artist who wins against thousands of other entries. Comprised of esteemed international artists, the jury will judge thousands of entries and chose a shortlist and overall winner.

First established in 1957, the internationally-renowned prize is organised in collaboration with the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition Trust. The trust has championed contemporary British painting for 60 years, longer than any other art prize of its scale.

The jury members for the John Moores Painting Prize 2018 consist of, Marvin Gaye Chtwynd, Lubaina Himid MBE, Jenni Lomax, Bruce McLean and Liu Xiaodong, all renowned artists and major players in the world of art.

Judged anonymously, all of the entries will be shortlisted to the top five. The winning entry receiving £25,000 and a three-month fellowship at Liverpool John Moores University with an in-focus solo display at the Walker Art Gallery, in 2019.

Visitors can play the role of judge, by choosing their favourite painting at the Joh Moores Painting Prize exhibition to win the Visitor’s Choice Award and a small prize sum.
