London Buses 'Land' at Brooklands for their Annual Spring Gathering

The special, distinctively-liveried London buses which used to ferry passengers from the old Cromwell Road Air Terminal or Victoria Station to Heathrow Airport during the 1960s and ’70s will be a special feature of the 42nd annual London Bus Museum Spring Gathering on Sunday 19th April. They will be amongst around a hundred London buses of all types which are expected to descend on the Brooklands Museum site, home of London Bus Museum, on the day. As well as vintage and modern bus rides in and around Brooklands, there will be numerous trade stalls offering a vast array of memorabilia and collectibles, static displays of ex-London Transport and Provincial buses and some of the latest vehicles to enter London Transport service.

At 11am in the Paddock in front of the Clubhouse, London Bus Museum will take into its collection two “new” vehicles. One is RLH48, the only survivor of its class of London Transport Country Area Low Bridge buses, which saw service from Addlestone Garage; the other is TA1, a Dennis Trident with Alexander Bodywork dating from 1999. This was the first low-floor wheelchair-accessible double-decker in London service. Accepting these new vehicles on behalf of London Bus Museum will be one of the first duties conducted by its newly-appointed Chairman, Chris Heaps. He comes with a wealth of experience in the heritage transport sector and has been at two stages in his career a Traffic Commissioner, in the West Country and London.

Gates open to the public at 9am with Museum displays opening at 10am. Entrance fees to this premium event are as follows: Adults £13; Students/Seniors £12; Children (5-16 yrs) £7; Children under 5 FREE; Family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children), £34. For full details visitwww.brooklandsmuseum.com or www.londonbusmuseum.com. The 4D Napier-Railton Race Experience and the half-hour Concorde Experience are an extra £5 each for adults, £3 each for children.

Extra parking for visitors to this event will be in The Heights off Wellington Way and the nearby Brooklands Community Park – please follow event signage on the day.
