Minors to Maxis descend on Brooklands!

Austin Morris Day at Brooklands Museum

Celebrating Iconic British Manufacturers

Sunday 6th March 2016

When Brooklands Museum hosts its annual Austin Morris Day on Sunday 6th March, two of the most popular marques in British motoring history will be celebrated. Now in its 23rd year, this popular event is an opportunity for visitors to see all types of Austin and Morris vehicles attempt to ascend the famous Test Hill, take part in a cavalcade on the Mercedes-Benz World track and gather seven or eight deep for a mass photo opportunity on the Members’ Banking at Brooklands Museum - the Birthplace of British Motorsport and Aviation.

Austin and Morris cars and commercial vehicles are some of the most recognisable and best-loved vehicles ever to grace the roads of Great Britain, with the two marques together accounting for more than 50% of the British car market in the late 1920s and through most of the 1930s. The Austin Motor Company Ltd (established in 1905) and Morris Motors Ltd (formally established in 1919 though William Morris started building cars in 1913) were merged in 1952 as subsidiaries of The British Motor Corporation Ltd (BMC, later to become British Leyland and then Austin Rover), although the individual identities were retained until 1984 (Morris) and 1994 (Austin).

Morris types on show are expected to include Bullnose, Eight, Ten & other pre-war saloons, 10 Tourer, war-time military vehicles, Morris Commercials, Marina, Mini, Isis, Oxford, 1100, and Mini Mokes – and, of course, the ubiquitous Minor in its various forms as convertibles, light commercials, saloons and Travellers.

Austins should include Seven, Ten and other pre-war saloons,  A30/A35 saloons and vans, A40/A50/A55/A60 saloons and light commercials, Mini including Mini Cooper, 1100, 1800, Princess, J101, LC/LD and other post-war commercials. Along with closely related vehicles from within the BMC empire such as Austin Healeys, visitors can expect to see well over 200 vehicles gathered in and around the Museum Paddock and Motoring Village.

All drivers and passengers arriving in Morris or Austin vehicles at the Campbell Entrance off Brooklands Road (the B374) will receive a discount of £1 off the usual entry prices. Parking for visitors in non-Morris or Austin vehicles will be in our main visitor car park at Mercedes-Benz World and in The Heights off Wellington Way (please follow event signage), with normal Museum admission prices applying.

The programme for the day is as follows:
09.00              Gates open for Austin and Morris cars
10.00              Gates open to the public
13.15-13.45   Cavalcade on the Mercedes-Benz World circuit
14.00              Mass photo opportunity on the Members' Banking
15.30              Test Hill Demonstrations
17.00              Museum closes

The Motoring Village, Aircraft Park, London Bus Museum, Sunbeam Café, soft play area and Museum Shop will all be open, making the usual admission price even better value for money. And, for a small supplement, visitors can experience supersonic travel by booking a ticket for the excellent Concorde Experience  or they can venture inside the 4D Theatre for one of three exhilarating ‘rides’ that will take them on the Le Mans track in 1956, round the Brooklands circuit in the Napier-Railton or in the cockpit of a Hawk of the Red Arrows Display Team. Booking on arrival for these extra attractions is recommended as demand is always high.

Usual Museum admission prices apply for entry to this event for those not arriving in Morris and Austin cars: Adults £11, Seniors £10, Children (5-16 yrs) £6, Family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children) £30. The Concorde Experience is £5 for adults and £3 for children, 4D Theatre rides are £4 for adults and £2 for children. Height and other restrictions apply for the 4D Theatre. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Brooklands Museum is open every day from 10am to 4pm (10am – 5pm in summer).
