Santa Lands With Flying Colours

On Saturday 15th November, for the annual launch of West Midland Safari Park annual Santa Safari event, a brand new exhibit is being opened.

The all-weather, purpose built exhibit that is located in the Discovery Trail is called ‘Lorikeet Landing’ and is just one of the exhibits that is included in the Santa Safari ticket price.

As Santa soon found out, Lorikeet Landing is home to 52 Rainbow Lorikeets, a species of Australasian parrot that is native to some of the loveliest locations in the world- eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Eastern Australia and Tasmania. Much warmer climates than the great man is used to!

Santa’s Chief Confidant, Elfred said, “These beautiful free-flying birds have brightly coloured red, green, blue, yellow, and orange feathers along with a curved red bill. And, unlike some bird species, it is hard to distinguish between the males and females. This really is a case of all things bright and beautiful. It’s the perfect opportunity for visitors to get up close and personal to see these lovely little birds in this brand new walkthrough exhibit that has been themed as a tropical paradise. As one would expect, the temperature in the exhibit is pretty balmy too. Unlike the frozen north, a steady 18 degrees Celsius will keep the birds healthy and happy. Just as Santa did, visitors too can try their hand at feeding the lorikeets for a small extra charge, which I understand has been waived for opening weekend.”

Santa Safari is now in its tenth season, and is open from Saturday 15th – 23rd November, and daily from Wednesday 26th November- Christmas Eve. Tickets also include admissions to the animal reserves, Discovery Trail and the African Village. Children have their photo taken with Santa to take home, along with a gift of their choice. Adults are not forgotten either, as their ticket includes a choice of Mulled Wine or Hot Chocolate, with a Mince Pie.

Standard pre-booked prices for Santa Safari 2014:

Adult: £16.99
Child (1 year-15 years): £14.99
Baby (up to 1 year): £7.50
