SWALLOWS AND AMAZONS JOIN THE RACE AT KING POCKY'S DERWENT WATER REGATTA

Saturday 9 – Sunday 10 July

Join the adventure at King Pocky’s Derwent Water Regatta on 9 and 10 July, as upcoming family film Swallows and Amazons takes over the National Trust Lake District event. Families will have the chance to try out ‘back to basics’ outdoor activities featured in the film as part of the STUDIOCANAL and VISIT ENGLAND  partnership celebrating The Great Swallows and Amazons Summer.

The enchanting film is coming to cinemas from 19 August, bringing to life the classic novel by Arthur Ransome, which tells the tale of the Walker children’s summer holiday in the Lake District, sailing, camping and fishing. Families can now experience their own outdoor adventure by ‘setting sail’ for King Pocky’s Derwent Water Regatta and taking part in a range of activities inspired by the film – all in the location in which the story is set.

From sailing taster sessions* and the Swallows and Amazons Pirate Fancy Dress Competition to boat trips and a musical bonfire on the beach, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Adventurers can also cheer on their favourite team, including one featuring the film’s producer Nick Barton, in the Swallows and Amazons Boat Race – a race using the real boats; ‘Swallow’ and ‘Amazon’, that are featured in the film - ending the weekend on a thrilling high.

There’s also a traditional fairground, live music and drama, ’50 things to do before you’re 11¾’** activities as well as games to play including badminton and volleyball, watersports to try like kayaking and paddle boarding. Plus plenty of stalls selling food and drink - everything you could need for a family fun weekend.

Once you’ve enjoyed the activities at King Pocky’s Derwent Water Regatta, you can then visit a brand new information hub from 5th July: www.visitengland.com/swallowsandamazons, designed to help you create your own Swallows and Amazons-inspired Summer. The site offers free inspiration and advice on the best places to sail, picnic and camp across England with the aim of getting children enjoying the great outdoors again - and having wild adventures!

*Taster sessions cost between £5 - £8
