About Woodhorn Museum
Woodhorn Museum is located within a country park just off the A189 coastal route east of Ashington, Northumberland. It is only 25 minutes from Newcastle in the South and Alnwick in the North.
Discover Northumberland's history and proud mining heritage at Woodhorn which is home to the Northumberland Archives as well as, of course, the famous Ashington Group or Pitmen Painters as they are now affectionately known. There is a free admission to the museum (small parking charge applies) and you can explore many aspects of the mining community and industry; take an emotional journey through Coal Town, follow the banner trail, and view original buildings that were part of Woodhorn Colliery.
