About Urquhart Castle
Urquhart Castle is magnificently situated on the banks of Loch Ness and despite its ruinous state it still remains an impressive stronghold. Urquhart, once one of Scotland's largest castles, witnessed considerable conflict throughout its 500 years as a medieval fortress and its history from the 1200s to the 1600s was particularly bloody. There is an exhibition and audi-visual display which tells the story of the castle's vast history, where an outstanding array of medieval artifacts - found around the castle - are on display here. As well as telling the story of the noble families who held the castle at different times: the Durwards, MacDonalds and Grants. Bring the whole family along to Urquhart Castle, where your young explorers can be taken on four exciting Discover Explore missions while you take in the heritage of the magnificent building.
