A Special Mothering Sunday Treat at Chiddingstone Castle

On Sunday 6 March 2016, guests at Chiddingstone Castle can reserve a table for a Mothering Sunday Cream Tea, at either 1pm or 4pm.

This traditional treat will be served in the elegant White Rose Drawing Room with its beautiful countryside views and historic paintings and the grand, oak panelled, galleried Great Hall.  Each person will be served freshly made scones, with Cornish clotted cream and jam and a selection of delicious sandwiches and homemade cakes – the price per person is £18.00 (and £9.00 per child aged 6 and under).

This is always a popular event at the castle so pre-booking is essential.  Please call on 01892 872746 or email on [email protected].  If the weather is favourable visitors can enjoy a walk in the gorgeous grounds and enjoy the annual remarkable display of daffodils on the East Meadow and the cherry blossom on the Japanese Earthquake memorial trees.  Some of the Castle’s exhibition rooms will be available for a brief visit on the day.

The Castle and its museum will be fully open from 25 March 2016 when visitors can see the amazing artefacts collected by the gifted antiquary Denys Eyre Bower who left his collections for the nation to enjoy after his death in 1977.

Discover Japanese Samurai swords, armour and lacquer ware, together with fascinating antiquities from Ancient Egypt.  There are also paintings of the Stuart monarchs, Jacobite manuscripts and treasures and a unique Buddhist collection to explore.  A number of themed rooms are open for visitors to walk round, including Denys’ study, complete with personal letters detailing his complicated private life which featured a notorious scandal and imprisonment.

Admission to Castle:  Adults £9, children under 5 free, children 5 to 13 £4, families (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and up to 3 children £23.50.  Season tickets and group discounts available.

Open: Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Bank Holidays from 25 March 2016.  11am to 5pm.
