Fashion in Motion at the V&A

As part of an event on Friday 20th October, British fashion designer, Phoebe English, will be the featured designer at Fashion in Motion. Held in the Raphael Gallery, the four free shows will present pieces from English’s collections from the past 6 years and will feature a pop up shop, comprising of a selection of garments with special pieces designed specifically for the V&A.

An established designer, English created her own luxury womenswear and menswear label, creating clothes with an attention to precision and beauty. The Phoebe English Label, is a ‘Made in England’ line and using lost or little used fabrication techniques to create her garments, English has respect of construction, setting her label apart from mass made fashion.

In a statement from Phoebe English, she stated that, ‘Taking part in Fashion in Motion has a particular significance to me, as the V&A was the museum in which I decided to follow my interest in fashion. It is the building where my love for clothing and design were contextualised into a tangible practice and pathway. The V&A is a temple to all the endless creative possibilities of the human mind. To have the opportunity to be involved with both such an historic and contemporary space is a very special thing indeed.’

A highly acclaimed designer, English has won numerous awards throughout her career, and is celebrated by the V&A event and fashion curator Oriole Cullen. Cullen says, ‘Phoebe English is a designer for whom the presentation of her work is an integral part of her design process. For each of her collections she creates intriguing and beautiful scenarios in which to showcase her designs.

‘We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Phoebe as part of the V&A Fashion in Motion programme, particularly as she has previously used the Museum as a source of inspiration for her collections.’

This event is FREE to attend, and tickets will be released on Monday October 9th. For more information on the event and to find tickets, click HERE.
