About Scarborough Castle

Scarborough Castle was developed by Henry II and King John in the mid-12th century, although for nearly 3,000 years it was intermittently inhabited and fortified as a natural fortress. Over the years, the castle has seen its fair share of defining battles, for example in both the Civil War and the First World War. Guests are invited to head through the grand gatehouse to gain insight into the castles varied past, where the story of Scarborough can be explored through the exhibition in the Master Gunner's House. Visitors can also take a stroll around the magnificent building and can marvel at the fantastic views, overlooking Scarboroughs north and south bays.
