About Nottingham Castle
Built in the eleventh century, remodelled in the seventeenth and opened as a museum and gallery in the nineteenth, Nottingham Castle is a building steeped in fascinating history. Once home to Richard III during his short reign and the historic place where Charles I raised his stand during the Civil War, the castle is now known for its collection of fine art and rotating exhibitions. Come and see the different artworks on display, as well as learning of the castle's ever-changing nature and appearance or take a tour of the labyrinth of caves hidden beneath its foundations. There's something here to interest every visitor.
