About Southsea Castle
Built in the mid-sixteenth century under the order of Henry VIII to protect the coastline from invaders, Southsea Castle continued to defend Portsmouth throughout the years. Having had many uses over the years, from a stronghold, to a military prison, to a light house which is still in use to this day, this castle is a wonderful piece of architecture and has a rich history just waiting to be discovered.
