Gainsborough is a town in Lincolnshire, in the West Lindsey District, with a approximate population of 16,869 (2001). It is located 18 miles north west of Lincoln and is situated on the River Trent. Gainsborough has a vast history, dating back to the 8th century and at one time it served as an important port.
