After hours event: Space Odyssey

At-Bristol will be celebrating World Space Week on Thursday 10 October with the next event in its popular After Hours series; Space Odyssey - expect an evening out with a difference with explosive live science shows, rooftop stargazing, rockets and much much more.

Complete with live music and fully-licensed bars, plus no kids in sight, it's an evening to spend with your mates fulfilling all of those childhood aspirations about being an astronaut, piloting rockets and flying amongst the stars!

The explosive 'Explore Your Universe' live science show will be on during the evening, whilst the Live Lab area becomes 'Mars Lab' for the night, with a chance to navigate remote control rovers and analyse rock samples - will you find examples of alien life? There will also be the chance to 'meet the expert'; CERN researcher Dr Joel Goldstein will be on hand to answer questions in his session 'Everything you wanted to know about the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) but were too afraid to ask', so come along with questions ready.

Event goers will be able to try some city rooftop stargazing with the Bristol Astronomical Society, as well as making their own mini-rockets, tasting astronaut ice-cream and holding real meteorites. Planetarium shows will also be running throughout the evening event, with a tour of the autumn night sky led by the fantastic At-Bristol Live Science team.

John Polatch, At-Bristol's Learning Officer, said: "There'll be something for everybody: you can talk about subatomic particles with a local physicist, peer through telescope lenses at a spectacular neighbouring galaxy, or knock back a few G&Ts and make animations of alien invasions.'

For more info and to buy tickets, visit www.at-bristol.org.uk/space or call 0845 345 1235 (9am - 5pm Mon - Fri, excluding bank holidays). The At-Bristol café will also be open for the event, serving a space-inspired menu at £7.50 for two courses. The evening runs from 6.30pm - 10pm and tickets cost £7 or £6 for concessions, group rates also available. This event is for over 18s only.
