Beaulieu Boatjumble 2013

The Beaulieu Boatjumble is fast approaching with only a matter of weeks before people from sailing communities all over the UK flock to the event on Sunday 28th April.

Stand spaces are filling quickly, so if you have any boating bric-a-brac to sell, bag your stand before they disappear. Hundreds of stalls will be selling their wares on the day, with plenty of bargains to be found. All the popular elements of the Boatjumble are back in force this year, including BoatMart, Trunk Traders and the BoatMall.

Make sure you visit stand numbers 1 and 2 in the BoatMall, where brothers Jason Rice and Nick Townsend will be displaying their rowing boat, designed and built by Jason, in which they are taking on the challenge of rowing the English Channel between Weymouth and St. Helier, Jersey in the shortest time possible.

They are embarking on this 128 mile challenge to raise money for Help for Heroes - a charity close to both their hearts. Nick is a soldier who has seen active service in Iraq and Afghanistan, and was injured by a rocket attack in 2007, losing two pints of blood and suffering 11 shrapnel blast wounds to his body. Just two months later, after being airlifted back to England for treatment, he was back in the line of fire - the first time such a badly-wounded British soldier has returned to active duty so soon. Visit their stand to talk to them and find out more about their challenge.

Another must-see feature at this year's Boatjumble is Sir Malcolm Campbell's world water speed record breaker, the K3 Bluebird. This stunning hydroplane powerboat, in which Campbell set no less than three world records, will be on display for visitors to see, alongside Campbell's famous land speed record breaker, the Sunbeam 350hp, which is usually on display in the National Motor Museum. During the day the K3 will be started up - a rare opportunity to get a sense of just how powerful her engine really is.

The Classic Motor Boat Association will have a selection of their members' stunning classic boats and antique outboards on show, plus event sponsors, Practical Boat Owner Magazine will be working on their newly-painted PBO Project Boat Hantu Biru.

For younger visitors, there are plenty of water-themed activities to keep them entertained. Walk on water in giant transparent balls with Bubble Of Fun, test out boat-driving skills on Boats of Fun and have a go on the giant, nautical-themed slides.

Event visitors can also enjoy all the delights of the Beaulieu attraction, including the National Motor Museum, World of Top Gear, Beaulieu Abbey, Palace House and the picturesque gardens.

On-the-day, all-inclusive admission tickets are priced at £9.70 per adult and £7.50 per child. Advance tickets are available at a discounted rate online at www.beaulieushop.co.uk or on Ticket Line 01590 612888.

For those visitors arriving by public transport, there will be free shuttle buses running between 8am and 6pm from Buckler's Hard Marina, the Lymington Isle of Wight Ferry Terminal and Brockenhurst train station.

Stand spaces are still available, with Boatjumble stand prices starting at £55, and BoatMart and Trunk Trader spaces at £30. To make a booking, email [email protected] or telephone 01590 614614.

BoatMall and BoatMart are open to visitors from 9am, with the Boatjumble opening at 10am. The show closes at 5pm. For more information please visit www.beaulieuboatjumble.co.uk
