FREAK OUT AT THE MARITIME MUSEUM THIS OCTOBER HALF-TERM

Roll up, roll up! This October half-term marvel at the Maritime Museum’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

The fun starts with the Dark Age Drawing Supersized Weekend on October 24-25 where kids can take inspiration from the epic Viking Voyagers exhibition to create astonishing art. As part of the Big Draw 2015, kids can work with a local artist to create a giant dragon sculpture and create their very own Viking saga in stop cell animation.

On Saturday and Sunday, don’t miss Going Viking with Fleet of Foot Theatre, where you can join enthusiastic story seekers Nelson Fleet and Henry Foot as they send their battered old filling cabinet into the past to discover all things Viking.

Then from October 26 to November 1 the theme for the week is Freak or Unique, where you can make your own Indonesian Red Devil masks, swordfish trophies and more, inspired by the extraordinary artefacts from the Museum’s collection. Plus follow the Weird and Wonderful Trail and find the fantastical things from far flung lands once sold in Falmouth’s very own Old Curiosity Shop.

On Tuesday October 27 there’s Sally Crabtree, the Story Maker, who’ll be casting her line into the sea of songs and making treasures from the cargo of creativity.  Whilst Thursday October 29 it’s ‘Thorsday’ at the Maritime Museum!  Meet the Norse men and women from the epic Viking Voyagers exhibition, experience living history with Morvleydh, the Sea Wolves and make your own authentic ‘Eric Bloodaxe’ Viking age coin to take home.

And for Halloween, don’t miss the Maritime Museum’s Trick or Treat Tour on October 30 from 6.30pm.  Suitable for children aged five and up, spooky shenanigans are guaranteed making monster masks, bloodcurdling badges and trick or treat baskets before setting off on a torch lit tour to discover the ghosts and ghouls hidden in the Museum’s galleries. Not for the faint hearted!  Tickets are just £5.95 per person but places are limited so please book in advance on 01326 214546.

All the other activities at the Maritime Museum over October half-term are free with your Museum entrance ticket.  For more information on opening times and admission prices visit www.nmmc.co.uk or call 01326 313388.
