Free shuttle buses running to At-Bristol this half term!

Millennium Square car park will unfortunately be closed as it undergoes repair work following a car fire in the car park, this October half-term, running 22 October – 1 November. However, to help visitors to reach the harbourside science centre over the holiday period, At-Bristol will be providing a free shuttle bus service.

The free shuttle bus service will run every half hour from 10-6.30 from 22-30 October inclusive, picking up visitors from the West End car park on Jacob’s Well’s Road and dropping them outside At-Bristol. The 57 seater coaches can accommodate foldable buggies and wheelchairs. There are also other alternative parking options are available nearby to At-Bristol within walking distance, as well as good public transport links, visit at-bristol.org.uk/gettinghere  for further information on travel options.

October half-term is set to be jam-packed with adventures for everyone – including a brand space-based live science show ‘Destination Space’, the chance to get up close and personal with some amazing anatomy in ‘Dissection Lab’, enjoy some autumnal treats in the Kitchen and Greenhouse, and venture in to the depths of space in the brand new 3D Planetarium.

Building up to the launch of the Tim Peake’s forthcoming ‘Principia’ International Space Station (ISS) mission, the brand new ‘Destination Space’ live science show is all about space; where visitors will be able to investigate the challenges of microgravity, launch rockets with flammable hydrogen gas and find out what astronauts do when they need a wee on an eight hour space walk!

Regular presenter-led shows will be running in the Planetarium*, with the brand new Autumn Stargazing (in 2D or 3D) showcasing what’s in the night sky right now, as well as new topical sections such as the recent discovery of water on Mars,  (and the forthcoming  ‘Principia’ ISS mission in December). There will also be the ‘Space Explorers’ show (2D) for under 6s, allowing them to venture in to space and become fully trained space explorers!

At-Bristol’s Live Lab area will be host to ‘Dissection Lab’ – always a favourite, visitors will be able to investigate the anatomy of animal organs with At-Bristol’s Live Science Team, as they are guided through hands-on dissections; from tugging on heart-strings to peeking through an eyeball.

Visitors to the Kitchen in the Food! exhibition can get hands-on as they some autumnal treats, including exploring some unusual juices, creating take-away breakfasts, and trying out the food of the future. They can then get their hands dirty in the Greenhouse, by discovering all about ‘magic beans’ and green manure!

The brand new ‘Tinkering Lounge’ up on the 2nd floor, for half-term only from 26-29 October, will allow visitors to get hands on with experiments to make things wobble, shake and move – as well as making their own electrical bling! The 2nd floor of At-Bristol will also accommodate an extra café space, as well as extra picnic areas, buggy storage and a cloakroom area.

All of the activities above are included in the general admission prices, as well as over 250 hands-on exhibits.

*Planetarium shows cost £2 per seat for a 2D show, or £3 per seat for a 3D show. Booking in advance is advised (especially in busy holiday periods), and 3D shows are only available for children aged 6 and over.
