It’s not every day you see what is probably one of the largest bears being driven in a car, on the way to join the bears at Britain’s Teddy Bear Museum. Giganticus the Bear is a massive addition to the Museum’s wonderful collection and getting him to the Museum wasn’t easy. Weighing over 70 kg, he is not just any bear and is so large that he would’nt fit inside a normal size car and could only be transported with his head out of the sunroof, amusing many half term visitors to area as he made his journey to the Museum.
Museum Curator, Jackie Ridley, said: “He is a wonderful Bear, the problem we now have is to find a suitable place in the Museum to display him. He is enormous”
“We have teddy bears of all types at the Museum and of all ages spanning the whole history of teddy bears, but we have never had a bear like this! He will certainly not be missed. Giganticus will contrast well with one of the Museum’s smallest bears, who fits in a small tea cup”.
Giganticus’ new home, The Teddy Bear Museum, which is Britain’s only Museum devoted entirely to teddy bears, is situated in Dorset’s County town of Dorchester, and is open seven days a week. The Museum and its popular teddy bears are frequently featured on radio and television and is a firm favourite with the public. It was recently featured on BBC’s Antique Road Trip and Radio 2’s Breakfast show.
