February Half Term, 15 - 19 February 2016
Families are invited to the Thackray Medical Museum this half term, to investigate the mechanisms of one of the most important organs in the body, by taking part in heart dissection workshops.
In conjunction with medical experts from Leeds Teaching Hospitals, children will be able to dissect a sheep heart, gaining an understanding of how the heart pumps blood through the body to keep us alive.
Learning Manager, Liz Egan, explains “This is a fantastic opportunity for children to be able to see a part of their anatomy up close. Working with staff from St James’s University Hospital enables us to provide activities that have a real educational value. We hope children will go away with an understanding of the importance of healthy eating and exercise as a way of keeping the heart in good working order."
Workshops will be taking place Monday 15th to Friday 19th February at 12:30pm, 2pm and 3pm. Visitors should book their place on arrival at the museum. A small charge of £2 will apply in addition to usual admission charges. Alternative activities will be available for visitors who may be a little squeamish.
