Kent Museum Wins Top Award

At a ceremony held at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, The Colonel Stephens Museum (located at the Kent & East Sussex Railway in Tenterden), received top museum award this month.

The Morton’s Media (Heritage Railway Magazine) Interpretation award gave further recognition of the excellence of this museum, which also contributes to a great day out when you visit Tenterden’s Steam Railway, citing the Museums’ ‘continuing magnificent highlighting of a unique dimension of British History’.

Doug Lindsey, a resident of St. Michaels, Tenterden and member of the Museum Committee received the award on behalf of the Museum team of the Kent & East Sussex Railway.

Curator of the Museum, Brian Janes of Sissinghurst commented: ‘This 2014 Best Museum Award is very welcome particularly coming, as it did, out of the blue. We hope that visitors will continue to come and enjoy the ever improving presentation when we open for the season at Easter. The award is a humbling recognition of the museum team’s worthy efforts over many years.’

The Colonel Stephens Railway Museum is open from 3rd April 2015 on afternoons when the Kent & East Sussex Railway at Tenterden is running train services. It also cares for Cavell Van at Bodiam station which is famous for its links to the Unknown Warrior and war heroes Edith Cavell and Captain Fryatt.

Admission to the museum is £2, with £3 for couples. Children under age 16 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by adults.

Admission to the Cavell Van is free but donations for its upkeep are very welcome.
