Magical Muntjac Deer Wins Wildlife Photo Competition

The British Wildlife Centre’s (BWC) Native & Natural Photography Competition results have been announced, with the winners and runners-up selected from over 600 entries. No easy task! Visitors’ photographs of the wonderful wildlife at the Centre, were showcased during the competition. Congratulations goes to Zena Saunders, winner of the Habitat Category, who was also chosen as the competition’s overall winner. Her magical shot, called ‘At Home with a Muntjac’, was a shot of the one of the Centre’s muntjac deer in a woodland setting.

Zena said: “I noticed the light in the copse first and thought a red squirrel would look good just there, but it wasn’t to be. I was aware that the Muntjac was being chased by the male through the copse and hoped she would come to this area, so I waited and watched. Capturing the moment was great, I’m so pleased with the final photo, and I liked it the second I took it.”

BWC’s Head Keeper Matt Binstead was one of the judges and commented: “A beautiful photograph of one our most overlooked animals, showing you don’t always need the animal to fill the frame to make the shot. The colours are vivid, the lighting is stunning and the overall composition is just right, placing the animal in her habitat perfectly. It was a standout photo from the start and a deserved overall winner!”

Zena wins the grand prize of annual membership and a special day of photography at the Centre: “It’s great to win and I look forward to spending another fantastic day at the BWC with the animals.”

All winner and runner-up images can be viewed on the Centre’s website: www.britishwildlifecentre.co.uk   So, if you would like to put your wildlife photo skills to the test with over 40 native wild species, the Centre is the place to go: open at weekends and during the half term holiday: Saturday 14th February to Sunday 22nd February 2015.
