Millennium Square car park due to reopen 25 January

Millenium Square car park is due to re-open on Monday 25 January, following a period of extensive repair work and cleaning after a car fire broke out in the car park in September 2015. All parking rates and charges have remained the same since the closure of the car park in September.

Visitors to the car park will be allowed to access the car park from 6am on Monday 25 January. There will be a small celebration event, where users of the car park will be able to claim a free hot drink and pastry from the At-Bristol café kiosk (from 7-10am on the 25 – 29 January upon production of  their car park ticket), as well enjoying a little musical refreshment too!

At the height of the repair works, over 50 people were working on site each day. A total of over 5400 electrician hours went into the refurbishment works, over 22 miles of new cabling has been installed and all five ventilation fans removed and replaced.

Operations Director of At-Bristol, Donna Speed, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone for bearing with us during the period that the car park was closed, as well as to the dedicated teams who have worked tirelessly to get the car park reopened. It was a complex repair project, and we recognise that it has had a large impact on visitors, local businesses and staff, so we’re very happy to get back up and running again and back to business as usual.”

On 3 September 2015, there was an incident in the Millennium Square car park involving a car which caught on fire; the At-Bristol team immediately evacuated the scene and alerted the Fire Brigade, who arrived directly. The two adjacent cars were damaged in the blaze, no individuals were harmed and the incident was isolated to the car park.

There was extensive smoke damage and contamination, meaning that lots of critical systems were damaged. The ventilation extract fan blades all needed to be replaced (each weight in excess of 2 tonnes, requiring specialist teams to remove and replace them, and bespoke parts manufactured); all five ventilation towers are needed to be able to re-open safely, as this provides ventilation throughout the car park introducing fresh air whilst removing vehicle exhaust fumes.

For any previous season ticket holders wishing to rebook their tickets, they are advised to contact the At-Bristol Estates team via email[email protected] – all emails will be responded to within five working days.  Visit at-bristol.org.uk for more information.
