National Park planners approve caravan site work

A facelift is on the cards for a caravan park near Sedbergh after Yorkshire Dales National Park planners gave the go-ahead at a meeting on June 14.

Planning permission to remodel existing holiday pitches, landscape areas of the site, demolish old toilets and build new washing facilities was applied for by the owners of the Ingmire Caravan Park at Marthwaite.

After hearing that Sedbergh Parish Council and the Yorkshire Dales Society were both behind the plan, members of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Planning Committee approved the application.

Members were told the caravan park aims to extend the season once the work has been finished.

The Authority’s Member Champion for Sustainable Development, Carl Lis, said: “It’s good that the operators of the caravan park have recognised that there is a change in customer needs – one that will hopefully continue to encourage tourism within the National Park.”

Approval was granted subject to certain planning conditions.
