New Explorers Week

West Midland Safari Park is opening for summer by hosting its first ever 'Explorers Week' event during February half term.

Starting on Saturday, 15th and running every day up to Sunday, 23rd February, there are two new costume characters to meet - Livingstone and his lemur companion, Stanley - as well as a variety of hands-on craft activities; the chance to gain an Explorers Sticker Badge and opportunity to win a prize by taking part in an Explorers Trail; as well as new themed shows and new animal encounters.

During Explorers Week, there are special indoor animal encounters being held in the all-weather Twilight Cave, which is home to free flying bats and night monkeys. Whilst pacu, catfish and rays live in the Flooded Forest that is a water feature forming part of the exhibit.

Visitors will be able to see a variety of nocturnal creatures being fed and encouraged to learn more about the bachelor group of 10 Rodrigues fruit bats and the breeding colony of around 60 Seba's short-tailed bats, during the new 'discover more' sessions presented for the first time by a keeper.

The Discovery Room activities will include Explorers Craft Club and Minibeast Meets. There will be a range of explorer based craft activities from each corner of the world, which include making frog headbands, panda masks and paper fish. Visitors will be able to explore the inhabitants of the Discovery Room with hands on opportunities with some of the minibeasts including millipedes, cockroaches, giant snails and stick insects.

Explorer themed animal encounters will also be held at other locations throughout the Park, such as at Penguin Cove, Mark O'Shea's Reptile World and in the African Village. There is also a 'Flora the Explorer' theme to the Sea Lion shows being performed throughout the week.

Explorers Week is included in the standard admission of £17.99 for adults, £12.99 for children aged 3-15 years and £15.99 for concessions.

Children under the age of 3 years are admitted free of charge. Prices also include admission to the four mile, self-drive safari, Discovery Trail with all weather attractions - Creepy Crawlies, Mark O'Shea's Reptile World, Seaquarium and Twilight Cave - along with Penguin Cove, Sea Lion Show, Animal Encounters, Meerkat Mayhem and Walking with Lemurs. Admission also includes a free return ticket. Amusement rides are charged extra in all cases.
