TAKE A TRIP TO THE STARS AT THE MARITIME MUSEUM

Visitors can take a trip to the stars in Cornwall’s only Planetarium this February half-term, at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.

Visitors can get a 360 degree view of our spectacular solar system, explore the wonders of space and be amazed by astronomy, all as part of the Museum’s Starstruck event, from February 13-15.

Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society Simon Ould will be leading sessions in the huge Space Odyssey planetarium dome, which will be set up in the Main Hall.

During each exciting session, children and adults of all ages will be taken on an amazing virtual tour of the International Space Station to learn about Tim Peake’s historic mission, including when to spot the ISS each evening during half-term.  Each group will also enjoy a thrilling flight through the rings of Saturn, looking back, too, at some highlights from 60 years of space exploration and discover what to look out for in the dark Cornish skies.

And throughout half-term from February 13-21 there will be Interplanetary Crafts, where kids can get creative and make a moon and stars mobile, build and fire a paper rocket and create a nebular jar.  And families can also take part in the Constellation Challenge and search for the different constellations hidden around the Museum.

Plus every Thursday of every school holiday is ‘Thorsday’ at the Maritime Museum!  Meet the Norse men and women from the epic Viking Voyagers exhibition, experience living history with Morvleydh, the Sea Wolves and make your own authentic ‘Kind Cnut’ Viking age coin to take home.

Tickets for the Planetarium cost £3.50 in addition to the cost of admission to the Museum and can be booked on: 01326 214546.  All other activities at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth, over February half-term, are free with your Museum entrance ticket.  For more information on opening times and admission prices visit www.nmmc.co.uk.
