Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit the Mary Rose, 26 February 2014

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit the Mary Rose on the 26 February 2014 and will have their first opportunity to view the purpose-built museum within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Their Royal Highnesses will tour the museum, including the Stavros Niarchos Learning Suite and will have an opportunity to view at close quarters some of the unique artefacts.  They will meet trustees, major donors, staff and volunteers.

The Prince of Wales, President of the Trust, has been actively involved with the Mary Rose since his first dive on the wreck on the 30th July 1975 and has followed the project very closely from those early days.

His Royal Highness was one of the last people to dive down to the Mary Rose wreck in 1982, before watching the hull being raised from The Solent.

Rear Admiral John Lippiett CBE, Chief Executive of the Mary Rose Trust said; “We are delighted to be welcoming Their Royal Highnesses to the Mary Rose and to be able to show them around our new museum.  They will meet many of the people who have made the museum project possible. His Royal Highness’s personal involvement has been fundamental throughout the project’s history and we look forward to showing him our achievements. We are especially pleased that Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall will be paying her first visit to the Mary Rose”
