Thomas the Tank is back on track!

Despite the recent and major damage to one of the railway bridges on the Spa Valley Railway, the ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ event is still a go for this coming weekend. The damage to the line did not stop the planned event on September 30th and October 1st and will not affect the event this coming weekend, October 7th and 8th.

Charmian Chris MacRae stated in the Spa Valley Railway press release that, ‘Our contractors have repaired the damage done by the bridge strike by an over height Heavy Goods Vehicle. This required a road closure by the two county council roads authorities. This disruption has caused us a lot of lost revenue and having to re plan operations due to curtailed services.

‘It has placed huge strain on our volunteers, but thankfully we are now open again and able to run our scheduled services including “Days Out With Thomas” and our “CAMRA Beer Festival”.   We are incredibly grateful to our loyal customers and supporters and to all our external partners who have pulled out all the stops to assist us during this difficult time to try and reopen the railway in time for Thomas’s arrival this weekend. Ongoing work with County and Borough Councils to prevent recurrences of such bridge strikes by over height vehicles continues.’

Visitors still met the famous Tank Engine and can still do so this weekend on the 7th and 8th October, along with some of Thomas’ friends as well. Enjoying a ride along the rails with Thomas and some special themed events over the weekend.
