About Newcastle Cathedral
As the Mother church of the Diocese of Newcastle, the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas has a vibrant religous history and several areas of interest housed within. Originally founded as a parish church in the late eleventh century, but destroyed by a fire in 1216, the current Cathedral structure was built and completed in the mid-fourteenth century and remains to this day a stunning piece of religous architecture. There a number of special events held throughout the year as well as six weekly sung services containing songs that range from the 14th century to the present day.
