About Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology
The Ashmolean Museum is the University of Oxford's museum of art and archaeology, the collection of which began modestly in the 1620s. It wasn't until the University Art Collection and the original Ashmolean Museum merged together in 1908, that the present Ashmolean was created. The museum hosts an extraordinarily diverse collection, ranging from Contemporary Art to Early Italian Art, Greek & Roman Sculpture to Egyptian mummies, telling human stories across space and time.
