About Curious About Sheffield

Have fun discovering Sheffield with two self-guided, heritage walks with an optional treasure hunt.

Sheffield, situated on the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park, is famous for its steel industry - but with 170 woodlands, 78 public parks, 10 public gardens and over 2 million trees, it is also one of Europe's greenest cities. Add to that splendid shopping, great nightlife, excellent bars and restaurants, a bustling canal, an unusual cathedral, a Town Hall with a grand marble staircase, fountains and water cascades, and you have a South Yorkshire city well worth a visit. Buy or download a booklet then take our fabulous walks of discovery, and have fun finding answers to clues which tell you more, whilst reading our stories about the most interesting places.

First Walk: Victoria Quays to Peace Gardens (1.9 miles) This walk takes you from the picturesque port of Victoria Quays at the end of the Sheffield canal, to vibrant gardens in the heart of the city - a living celebration of world peace. In between you’ll walk beside Sheffield’s supertrams, circle its unusual cathedral and a Georgian Square from Paradise, pass an imposing Town Hall, the celebrated Crucible Theatre and the wonderful Winter Gardens. Something for everyone!

Second Walk: Peace Gardens to City Ciew (1.3 miles)Passing the Town Hall this walk takes you first to the City Hall, a modern venue for special events. Descend now down the ‘gold route’ to Sheffield station, past modern university buildings sporting modern poetry, and a Cutting Edge water feature. Traverse the station and the Supertram tracks to ascend a hill with an unusual amphitheatre, ending at enchanting gardens with absolutely stunning views over most of Sheffield.
