A farmyard full of summer holiday fun at Tatton

Tatton Park News - Summer park funStaff at Tatton's Home Farm have been busy creating a highly imaginative (and educational!) programme of summer holiday activities for children to immerse themselves in this school holiday.

The programme has been excitingly inspired by The Magic of Beatrix Potter event which is taking place across the Tatton Park estate until September 1st. Visitors are already enjoying viewing some of Beatrix Potter's finest watercolours in the mansion and taking part in fun trails and activities in the gardens, mansion and farm.

The Summer Farm Fun kicks off on Tuesday 30th July and continues until Friday 23rd of August. In Tatton's fabulous maize maze search for Peter Rabbit's animal friends and the challenge is to find them before Mr.McGregor does. There'll also be a fun Beatrix Potter quiz to try your hand at.

Visitors to the farm can already enjoy looking out for some of Beatrix Potter's farmyard characters among Tatton's own farmyard friends in search of their very own Pigling Bland and Pigwig and a farm exhibition gives an intriguing insight in to the other side of Beatrix Potter's creativity and genius including her immense contribution to conservation in countryside and farming. She was integral to the conservation of the rare breed Herdwick sheep.

Back by popular demand are the daily sheep races with some of the farm's ewes running as fast as their hooves can carry them cheered on by farm visitors.

Jayne Chapman, farm manager and head coach said "We love the summer holidays, all the animals have been born, chicks, calves and our gorgeous colt foal-Tatton McGregor. So now it's time to show them all off to everyone. The highlight of course is the sheep racing, the lambs are currently in training and the fun side is that anything can happen on the day."

The farm's well-liked farm facts sessions are a great way to get close to and learn more about some of Tatton's wonderful farm animals - the hatchery talks are a particular favourite where cute newly hatched chicks are guaranteed. You can then pop in to the farm's shippon used for milking cows in the past and now the venue for regular milking demonstrations with Tatton's very own and very gorgeous Lou Lou the Jersey and Pansy the Ayrshire cows. They love showing off their lovely special creamy milk and you will be able to learn more about the milking process.

Top off the day with some real adventure in the farm's den building zone - great for all ages... and a fantastic new woodland play trail will really test those skills of balance and agility.

Why not bring along a picnic and enjoy the woodland setting of the farm's own picnic area? The perfect family day out this summer!
