Elisabeth Quick to represent Manchester Cathedral at Diamond Fund Concert

Nation's choristers will swell the sound of music in St Paul's Cathedral.

The Friends of Cathedral Music (FCM) is kick-starting a £10m fund with a national concert at St Paul's Cathedral, to help raise funds to ensure that the nation's world-renowned cathedral music is preserved for the future, where the resident choir will be joined by a cathedral chorister from the majority of the nation's cathedrals, some 60 in all.

This unique concert on Wednesday 27 April, presented by Classic FM’s Aled Jones, is a starter to raising money for the £10m Diamond Fund for Choristers, set up by FCM, which is anxious that many cathedral choirs under mounting financial pressure should be able to resist any threat to a 1,400 year old tradition and remain for future generations.

Elisabeth Quick will represent Manchester Cathedral. Organist and Master of the Choristers, Christopher Stokes, said:

"“I am delighted that Lizzy will be taking part in this very important concert which will launch the Diamond Fund for choristers, which marks the Diamond Jubilee of the Friends of Cathedral Music. The good works that the FCM do to support our wonderful cathedral choral heritage in this country is inestimable; it is a great privilege to support this venture.”

During the concert, Alexander Armstrong will speak about the value of a choral education, and Andrew Carwood, St Paul’s Director of Music, will conduct the large choir.  Visiting choristers will receive initial training in their own cathedrals before making the journey to London. Classic FM is proud to support this event as a Media Partner; and the lead donor is the Genesis Foundation.
