Family Fun at Bodiam Castle in May

Bodiam Castle has an exciting events programme planned for May. Visitors can learn about medieval armour and fighting techniques and go back in history to find out what it was like being a medieval knight or soldier of fortune at the castle in the 14th Century. Whatever your age, there is guaranteed fun for all the family.

Bodiam Dawn Chorus - Sunday 5 May, 4am to 6.30am

Enjoy a beautiful sunrise over Bodiam Castle and learn about the rich wildlife that surrounds the castle. Tickets cost £5 including a light breakfast. There are only 20 places available so booking is essential. Call 01580 830196.

Bodiam Military - Saturday 18 May, 11am to 4pm

Learn about medieval armour and fighting techniques and find out if you have what it takes to be a medieval knight or soldier of fortune like the castle's founder Sir Edward Dallingridge. Normal castle admission applies.

IWA Boat Rally - Saturday May 25 to Monday May 27

Come and see the boats as they trail past and moor beside the Wharf Tearoom on the River Rother over the bank holiday weekend. An evening of entertainment awaits you on the Saturday with the castle opening until 8pm, live music and BBQ culminating in an illuminated boat display at 9pm.

Surrounded by charming Sussex countryside, Bodiam's medieval ruins offer a vast history which visitors of all ages can enjoy. Among the many historical features is the original wooden portcullis, which is on display in the gatehouse, the 'murder holes' and the Castle's impressive battlements, which remain virtually intact. Visitors can also climb the spiral staircases to the tops of the towers, where unrivalled views of the surrounding estate and Rother Valley await.
