Opera & Ballet International proudly presents the Ellen Kent productions...Die Fledermaus & Carmen

LIVE at the Grand Theatre Blackpool

Tuesday 17 to Wednesday 18 November, 2015

There’s no better way to fend off the dark winter nights than with two spectacular and irresistible operas of passion, from one of the UK’s most renowned opera companies.

The company returns to The Grand once more this November, following the tour of the Ellen Kent productions of Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto and La Traviata, performing two of the most lavish operas - Die Fledermaus and Carmen.

Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, set in late 19th-century Vienna, features an array of colourful characters. This light-hearted opera of love, laughter and sweet revenge features some of opera’s most popular musical moments, which will be sung in English with English surtitles. The opera will also be lavishly staged, in true Ellen Kent style, featuring real bats, champagne fountains and a mystery guest.

Bizet’s Carmen is perhaps one of the most famous and seductive operas of all time, a night of true operatic and emotional intensity. Sung in French with English surtitles, this beguiling production features the opera’s unforgettable melodies including the best-known baritone aria of all, ‘The Toreador’s Song’. The atmospheric architecture of Seville and its main square will be recreated in a brand-new set design, and the opera is even set to feature a real rescue donkey live on stage.

Not only loved by lifelong opera fans, Die Fledermaus and Carmen are also the perfect introduction for those new to opera. And as part of its aim to introduce young people to the arts, Blackpool Grand Theatre has two offers targeted at young theatregoers: an £8 ticket on the day for students and 50 £12.50 tickets for Under 26s.

Andrew Howard, Marketing Manager, said:

“We think opera and theatre is for everyone, and that’s why we’re offering great price tickets for students and under 26s. Seeing the magic of an Ellen Kent opera on stage is an unmissable experience, so this is a great opportunity for students studying theatre, music or drama to see these powerful productions first-hand. Our regular theatregoers can also benefit from our link ticket offer, which saves them money if they book for two or all three of the Ellen Kent operas coming up: Die Fledermaus, Carmen and Tosca in February. Not forgetting our triple bill of Gilbert and Sullivan operas, this November is set to be a real treat for opera lovers as well as those wishing to try something new.”

Die Fledermaus and Carmen are at the Grand Theatre on Tuesday 17 November and Wednesday 18 November respectively. Tickets can be booked at blackpoolgrand.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01253 290190.
